let's talk books!

I am an obsessive reader. I try to read three books a week, but lately, it is more like two. The "reading the three books a week" thing started when I was about 20. I am fortunate to work at our local NPR affiliate (I moved to on call status with the boys) and they have a "free books" shelf. They are almost always current books that are FREE. Now that is a little slice of heaven. I always tell them they can "just pay me in books."

In the past few weeks, I have read:

Hope's Boy by Andrew Bridge (story about a boy who got caught up in the foster system and made it out to graduate from Wesleyan and Harvard Law School as well as a Fulbright Scholar.)

Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert (I'm sure you have heard of it!)

Marley and Me by John Grogan (again, I'm sure you have heard of it.)

Three Little Words by Ashley Rhodes Courter (another story of a girl who came out of foster care and has had great success.)

I am now reading A Wolf At The Table by Augusten Burroughs. He is a fabulous writer! (also wrote Running with Scissors)

Once I finish that, I am on to The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

What great books have you read lately??

then and now

Luke at 1 day old

Luke at 9 weeks old

Luke today

Sam at 12 weeks...tired little bear.

Sam today

I can't believe how much my babies have changed. They are true joy and more wonderful than anything I could have ever dreamed. I am very proud to be their mommy, today and every day.

When we first met Sam, he was 12 weeks old. He turns TWO next week!

When we first met Luke, he was 9 weeks old. He turned 18 months this week.

The Wiggles

Tony and I just had at least a 10 minute conversation about which of The Wiggles was "the coolest." (my answer - NONE) I guess these are the things you talk about when you have two children under 2. Where oh where are the days of discussing politics and world events?

Here's Tony's take:
Captain Feathersword is the biggest "goob" (Tony's word) because, "I can't get past his name." (important note: Captain Feathersword is not an "official Wiggle," more of a friend.)

Anthony is goofy because his "thing" is that he loves to eat fruit salad. Apparently there is not enough substance in that for Tony.

Jeff, aside from Captain Feathersword, is the goofiest because his "thing" is sleeping. That seems to bother Tony a fair amount.

Murray is "okay cool" because he is the "king of the guitar." And since Tony plays the guitar, it seems that that has scored some points with him.

Greg is "the coolest" because he is the "Wiggles leader."

There you have it, folks.
Sam getting silly with a baby wipe.

Here it is! My very first blog post. I have finally joined the rest of the world. I have great aspirations for keeping it current. However, if you look at my two guys above, you might realize that I am busy. Busy busy. I only thought I knew what "being busy" was before them.

It is Mother's Day and I am enjoying every second. My sons and their daddy brought me breakfast in bed. Sam and Luke decided it looked pretty good, (and let's face it, were probably exhausted from making it!) so they ate it with me. Tony looked pretty nervous..."Crumbs, syrup and two little boys...IN BED?" I think I saw a bead of sweat forming on his brow.

Then we went to the T-Rex restaurant for lunch. For those of you not familiar with it, it is like you have walked into Jurassic Park. Sam was really into it and Luke was scared! The growling really set him off and I could not put him down for a while. He was pretty nervous the whole time, even with us reassuring him that they were "not real."

Tony is also doing the laundry and making dinner. A girl could get used to this!
